The map depicts an unnamed "Virginia fort" erected by that colony on the Little Tennessee River near the Cherokee town of Chota, and Fort Loudon, erected by the colony of South Carolina about four miles away in the fork of the Little Tennessee and Tellico Rivers near the Cherokee town of Taskegee, the first Anglo-American settlement west of the Alleghenies.
